Global online betting brand Betway has just announced a new sponsorship. The company already has cricket sponsorships with Cricket South Africa as well as Cricket West Indies but has just expanded its portfolio.

On 14th December 2022 Betway was just announced as the title sponsor of the SA20, which is now called the Betway SA20.

Betway SA20 Overview

The SA20 is a new Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament which takes place in South Africa early 2023. Betway will be the title sponsor for several years which shows the commitment of the brand to both South Africa as well as cricket.

The first season includes the following 6 teams:

Durban’s Super Giants
Joburg Super Kings
MI Cape Town
Paarl Royals
Pretoria Capitals
Sunrisers Eastern Cape

The squads of all SA20 teams include some homegrown South African talent as well as some excellent overseas players.

Format

The SA20 competition runs over 4 weeks. The start is a group stage where each team will play each other twice in a double round-robin format. MI Cape Town bat off the group stage against the Paarl Royals on 10 January 2023. The group stage closes with Pretoria Capitals vs Paarl Royals on 7 February 2023.

Afterwards the 4 teams at the top of the table will move to the semi finals. The team in first position on the table plays the fourth one while the second plays the third one. Lastly, the winners of these semi finals will then compete in the final on Saturday 11 February 2023. Who will be the inaugural Betway SA20 champion?

Overall 33 matches take place in six iconic locations across South Africa: Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban, Gqeberha, Cape Town as well as Paarl.
