T20 Style Golf

15 May 2023 |

Golf is a sport that has been around for centuries and is known for its leisurely pace. However, a new type of golf is revolutionizing the way we play and introducing a new level of energy and excitement to the game. T20-style golf, also known as “speed golf,” is the latest trend in golfing and is bringing a new, fast-paced style to the sport. This unique twist on golf combines the traditional game with the speed and adrenaline of a Twenty20 cricket match.

Through quicker play, social activities, and an increased focus on fun. T20-style golf is an ideal way for long-time golfers and new players to enjoy the game. T20-style golf is sure to bring a fresh perspective to the game. This concept echoes the rapid-fire Twenty20 format that has shaken up global cricket. It has been designed by Australian businessman and UGC founder Deke Smith, will be promoted by the local tour.

What is T20 Golf?

T20-style golf is a new twist on the traditional game. While it comes with a few small rule changes, the core game remains the same. The main difference between regular golf and T20-style golf is the speed of play. A T20 game is over in just 20 minutes. Which makes it a much quicker and more exciting form of the sport. This is an exciting and social way to enjoy the game with your friends. Plus, it’s a great way to stay active and have fun during the warmer months. No matter what your skill level, you’re sure to have a great time.

Benefits of T20-Style Golf

As the name suggests, speed is the key factor when it comes to this style of golf. While some of the rules are different, the main benefits of this new form of golf are great. There is shorter play time, higher speed of play, and a focus on social activities. Let’s look at a few of the main benefits of playing T20-style golf.

  • Shorter play time: While it doesn’t necessarily shorten the actual golfing experience, it does give you a set finish time. So, if you want to play a quick game with friends, you can easily set a time limit.
  • Higher speed of play: The shorter time frame and quicker play is what really sets it apart from regular golf.
  • Focus on social activities: Golf is a great way to bring friends and family together. However play time can be slow. T20-style golf is designed to be quick and exciting. So, it’s a great way to keep the social aspect of golf strong.

How to play

T20-style golf is a quick game played by two players using traditional clubs and a typical golf ball. Usually, a 9-hole course is used for the game, and each round consists of two games. Each participant makes six golf shots during each game. The game is over after all six shots have been made by each player.

Choose your holes: The first step to playing T20-style golf is to choose your holes. Depending on the number of people you have and the available time, you can choose to play nine or 18 holes. The difference between nine and 18 holes is that you play each hole three times in a 18-hole round and only once in a nine-hole round.

Select teams: After you’ve chosen your holes, it’s time to decide who is playing on what team. Playing in teams is a great way to keep things competitive and add a social aspect to T20-style golf. The best way to decide teams, of course, is to flip a coin.

Hit your shots: Each player hits six shots in a round. After each player has hit all six shots, the round is over. The best way to play this style of golf is to play on a team with only two players per round.

Play the game as normal: Despite the faster pace of the game. T20-style golf is played just like traditional golf. Once each player has hit all six shots, the round is over and the team moves on to the next hole.

Where will the T20 Tournament kick off?

Ten city-based teams will compete in a new short-format golf competition that will debut in Australia with the hopes of revolutionising the sport and expanding its appeal.

The Ultra Golf Championship (UGC), which is being sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia, will make its debut in December 2023. This includes teams playing nine holes as opposed to the customary 18. The organisers have not issued dates and locations as yet.

They believe that the format will, however, appeal to a younger audience who are more open to receiving a result “in two hours of golf”.

Tips for playing

If you’re new to T20-style golf, don’t worry. The game is easy to learn, and you can find helpful tips online. Some tips for playing T20-style golf include:
